May 1, 2024 - All TCRC Local Chairs – CPKC Eastern and
Western Regions – Negotiations Bulletin 9
After negotiating in Toronto this week, we were unsuccessful in
achieving an agreement during the conciliation process with FMCS.
The Company declined to continue the conciliation process, so this
ends the conciliation portion of bargaining based on the code. We
will continue to participate in a mediation process with the
assistance of the Federal Mediators. The next planned dates for
negotiations are Friday May 17 and continuing wherein the Union will
be working towards a negotiated settlement based on the memberships’
proposals.
There has been very little progress regarding our demands this week
and we wish we could provide a more detailed description. We have
heard the membership wanting more detailed updates. We ask everyone
to review the initial bulletin #1 and the attachments provided on
September 22, 2023. We will continue to fight for changes that the
members have advised us to negotiate for. The Company has refused to
negotiate any demands that involve monetary incentives and seems to
be quite comfortable pushing the negotiations through to a work
stoppage. As we get closer to a work stoppage deadline, we are still
hopeful to have the Company negotiate in good faith and start to
advance the process at a greater pace.
Please be advised that the electronic voting has now closed in our
request for a strike mandate and the ballots have been tallied by
Simply Voting. Your negotiating committee thanks every member who
voted in this matter and for the tremendous response and support
from the ballots sent out this past month.
Simply Voting has provided the following today, May 1, 2024,
91.7% of ballots were returned with 99%
voting in favour of strike action if necessary.
With the show of your overwhelming support, we are hoping that this
will encourage the Company to negotiate terms acceptable to you, the
members.
Very soon all Local Chairpersons, Division Presidents and Secretary
Treasures will be sent several documents regarding the preparations
necessary in the event a strike or lockout occurs on May 22, 2024.
While we are committed to negotiating collective agreements, we must
move forward to make the arrangements for a work stoppage if
required. We would ask that everyone assist the local executive and
strike captains in this necessary procedure. The bargaining
committee will provide updates and support as needed.
We remain committed to properly negotiating a Collective Agreement
and will continue to vigorously advocate for and defend the members’
best interests.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
